New chairs elected at The European Alliance of Global Change Research Committees

The European Alliance of Global Change Research Committees has elected Prof. Markku Kulmala as Chair of the alliance for the period of 2014–2016 and Dr Christoph Ritz as Acting Vice-Chair for the year 2014. The nominations were made in the 5th meeting of the European Alliance that was held in Helsinki, 3–4 December 2013.

Prof. Kulmala leads the Division of Atmospheric Sciences at the Department of Physics in the university of Helsinki. He is the chair of the Future Earth Finland - National Committee for Global Change Research. Dr. Christoph Ritz is Executive Director of ProClim- Forum for Climate and Global Change in Switzerland.

The European Alliance is a network of national committees that implement the global change research programs of the International Council for Science (ICSU) in Europe. In the period of 2014–2016, the European Alliance will focus on the new international global change initiative, Future Earth. The European Alliance aims to be a central platform for the planning and implementation of national and joint European Global Change Research strategies and funding within the context of Future Earth. In the spirit of co-design, it will encourage its member committees to active national and European stakeholder and policy-maker engagement.
