In memoriam Jacques Weber 1946-2014
The DIVERSITAS community mourns the loss of our colleague and friend, Dr Jacques Weber who passed away on March 6th, 2014
Jacques Weber was an eminent scientist in economy who work on fisheries and development economics, examining local contexts and ecosystem management practices. His contributions on the role of models, methods and tools have paved the way of innovative research strategies. Through his investigation of the value of nature and the nature of values, he has illustrated the importance of exploring the many different value systems linked to the roles of biodiversity.
Moving from science to policy, he successfully led the French Institute for Biodiversity, which evolved into the French Foundation for Biodiversity Research. Recognising the importance of strong science-policy interface on biodiversity, he has been a strong actor in the development of IMoSEB, which paved the way to the establishment of IPBES, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
Our thoughts are with his family. The funeral service will take place at Crematorium du Mont Valerian in Nanterre, France, on Wednesday 13 March 2014, at 9:45am.
The following message will be placed on the condolences register on behalf of DIVERSITAS:
The DIVERSITAS community would like to send a message of support and affection to the family of Jacques Weber. Jacques was a great provocative thinker with whom we worked closely on both national and international initiatives. We appreciated his indefectible commitment to the conservation of biodiversity.
