Organisational structure
The structure in the diagram below reflects how DIVERSITAS operates. DIVERSITAS engages the scientific community in dialogues with stakeholders (science, policy, observation communities) to:
- Define DIVERSITAS science, that is identify and address scientific gaps and needs, in order to
- Produce scientific deliverables for these stakeholders.

The Science-Policy for biodiversity and ecosystem services
In order to be successful, the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services at the international level needs four complementary components: 1) Research, 2) Observation, 3) Assessment and 4) Policy. Good Policy making relies on good information drawn from Assessments, which are as strong as the underpinning Research and Observations.

DIVERSITAS is located within the Research component of this interface, since its main mission is to strengthen biodiversity and ecosystem services science. DIVERSITAS is also playing a key role in the construction of the global biodiversity observation system, called GEO BON, and of an assessment mechanism for biodiversity and ecosystem services, called IPBES. Finally, DIVERSITAS contributes to policy work, such as the work performed by the Convention on Biological Diversity, CBD.
