New generation of socio-economic-ecological models for sustainable landscape development: the case of bioenergy

Work within this initiative, coordinated in collaboration with the ESSP, contributes to Focus 3 of the bioDISCOVERY scientific strategy - improving biodiversity prediction. By bringing together modellers from different disciplines (economy, ecology, sociology) and using different modelling approaches, a new generation of socio-economic-ecological models that can address the questions of sustainable landscape development on a large spatial scale will be created. With this, a clear analysis of trade-offs and synergies of increased bioenergy and biofuel production is conducted. An analysis of regional case studies on a global scale can form the basis for the assessment required by the newly established Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
