DIVERSITAS receives a major part of its funds from a range of national funding agencies around the world. While some funding is acquired from sponsors and grants, the Programme receives most of its funds from National Committees, based on a scale of contributions. The Programme is grateful to the research councils, science funding agencies and other organisations world wide who contribute to its core funding. DIVERSITAS also acknowledges the International Group of Funding Agencies for global environmental change research (IGFA), for facilitating dialogue between national funding agencies and DIVERSITAS to mobilise resources.

In 2005, DIVERSITAS received annual contributions from the following countries, identified in alphabetical order:

Academia Sinica, China-Taipei
Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, Austria
French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE)
German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
German Research Foundation (DFG)
International Council for Science (ICSU)
International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS)
